Pregnancy and Massage

No pain, no gain

“No pain, no gain” is not necessarily the best mantra for massage treatment. Often times, our patients will ask us to go deeper and use more force in the hopes of releasing muscular tension. However, if techniques are applied too deeply and too vigorously, the body may reflexively tense up and resist the pressure, essentially making the area more difficult to treat or even worsen the condition. The trick is to go slowly, and allow the tissue to receive the stress and the stretch. Some pain is likely inevitable during the healing process, but it doesn’t have to be the norm during your massage sessions.
